The Hidden Drawbacks of Airtel India Roaming in Israel

While carrier roaming through Airtel India appears convenient because it requires no setup, travelers frequently encounter several major frustrations:

Severe Daily Data Caps: Most carrier roaming plans throttle your connection to 2G/3G speeds (128–256 kbps) after consuming just 500MB to 2GB per day, making navigation with Waze and social media video streaming difficult.
High Latency & Traffic Routing: Roaming data is routed back through Airtel India's home servers across the Atlantic or Europe before returning to your phone in Israel, adding 150–300ms of lag.
No Local Israeli Phone Number: Carrier roaming retains only your home country number. Calling local Israeli hotels, restaurants, tour guides, or Gett taxi drivers often incurs expensive international per-minute surcharges.
